![]() The Surest Poison is a full-cast audio play and original story set in the Sapphire and Steel universe. It's not that they were bad French accents - I just think they got in the way of the actors' performances at times. I think this mutes the emotional punch of the play, rendering it more of an intellectual puzzle.Īlso, I'm not sure that the mock French accents used by the French characters really helped matters. The problem is that this story is very talky, even by Sapphire and Steel standards: whether the action is taking place in 1790, 1983, or 2006, it still consists mostly of people standing in rooms full of watches, talking. The story moves between the present day (2006?), where a collector is selling off his collection of Breguet watches Jerusalem in 1983, where a number of Breguet watches were stolen and various points in Breguet's life during the late 1700s and early 1800s. The story revolves around master French watchmaker Abraham Breguet, and the strange effect that his watches have on time itself. An excellent idea for a Sapphire and Steel story, let down a bit by its execution.
